The character that Terrence Howard was based on was 32 when he led the 332nd Squadron. There is much in your review I disagree with but I just wanted to point that one out. I think people that criticize the movie simply from the style or dialogue miss the bigger point of the story. It wasnt that the 332nd was a spectacular unit. It was that the overall of perception of black soldiers was that they were inadequate fighters. They had to work twice as hard as their white counterparts just to prove their equality as fighters. To harp on dialogue, or music, or the love story subplot you do a disservice to acts the Tuskegee Airmen did accomplish. On a sidenote anyone expecting a history lesson from a movie is a jack-a**.What I hope is people will be interested enough to go find out on their own the history of the Tuskegee Airmen...

Re: Darkness II Demo available; Seriously Rated M

Excellent! We're definitely not a "post-racial society" by any means. I hope the movement is forward, and not backwards, but that will depend in large part on who votes, and who sits home. For my part, I will NEVER sit home. I'll vote if I have to crawl to get to the polls, because it matters. It really, truly matters. We already have elected officials who think that landmark things such as the civil rights act are racist and unconstitutional. Imagine if these people get enough sane people to agree with their theories. We could be in for some serious trouble.

Re: The GOP loves Black People

Elon, you do my heart good!! :-)

Re: @BlackingItUp! #198 – You don’t deserve To Be Free

Nice. The act of bringing up race is now seen as an act of racism. Attempting to discuss the past or ant attempt to address systemic inequalities is met with anger and derision. I recall the in house astrologer (who probably didn't come cheap) Ms. Reagan consulted regarding her family and her husband's affairs. I recall the reports of behind the scenes dislike for Ms. Reagan and her bossy, meddling (some would say kooky) ways.

Mrs. Obama is far from 'kooky' and uses her intelligence and fortitude to 'get her job done. Yet she is criticized for every step she takes. I do believe that just as in the case with the GOP's Patron Saint, the Obama Presidency will be proven in time to have been the best thing for this country at one of our lowest times. Looking back we will note how FLOTUS got so much done with soooo much opposition.

Re: Seeing Michelle

congratulations on your joining the TWIBU roster. As a male happily married for 33 years my perspective is maybe a bit different.I haven't read the book yet but to me Mrs. Obama is the type of wife and helpmate that is optimal for family success and spousal success. This speaks to the heart of what Prof. Harris-Perry contends - that people will keep trying to make Michelle conform to the widely-held stereotypes about black women in America no matter what the reality may be.

Re: Melissa Harris Perry on Colbert Report

This made my day.
